Cognac Park Borderies Mizunara 12 Years
Innovative, Exotic, Sublimely Floral A groundbreaking bridge between French tradition and Japanese oak.
Cognac Park Borderies Mizunara 12 Years is a pioneer in the world of spirits. It represents a daring marriage between the rarest cru of Cognac the Borderies and the legendary Mizunara oak from Japan. This expression is the first of its kind, born from the desire of the Tessendier brothers to push the boundaries of traditional aging by combining the floral delicacy of French eaux-de-vie with the spicy, exotic temperament of Japanese wood.
The Art of the Japanese Finish
At Cognac Select, we are fascinated by the technical precision of this 12-year-old expression. The cognac spends its first 10 years maturing in traditional fine-grained French oak barrels to establish its structure and fruity character. For the final 2 years, it is transferred into 500-liter new Japanese Mizunara oak casks. Mizunara is a notoriously difficult wood to work with, requiring decades to grow and immense skill to cooper, but it imparts a unique aromatic profile rich in vanillin and sandalwood that is found nowhere else in the world.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: A brilliant, honeyed gold with soft amber reflections.
Nose: Deeply original and complex. It opens with the signature Borderies scent of violets and gardenias, which quickly intertwines with the exotic, woody aromas of sandalwood and incense provided by the Mizunara oak. Hints of sweet spices and honey linger in the background.
Palate: The mouthfeel is incredibly round and supple. On the palate, it reveals a lush harmony of stewed apricots, pear, and vanilla, balanced by a dry, spicy character. The influence of the Japanese oak brings a distinctive "oriental" twist, with notes of cedar and white pepper.
Finish: Long, clean, and elegant. It leaves a persistent trail of floral freshness and a sophisticated, woody spice that is both warming and refined.
