Bache-Gabrielsen XO Fine Champagne: The Art of Time, Mastered

When decades of patience meet the finest terroir in Cognac.

There are XO cognacs. And then there is the Bache-Gabrielsen XO Fine Champagne: a bottling that quietly, confidently surpasses what the category demands. While the XO classification requires a minimum of 10 years of ageing, this exceptional expression goes far beyond. Aged for over 15 years on average, with some eaux-de-vie in the blend approaching nearly two decades in oak, it is a cognac that speaks the language of time, restraint, and mastery.

Carrying the prestigious Fine Champagne designation, this cognac is a blend produced from the Grande Champagne (72%) and Petite Champagne (28%) crus: two of the most highly prized growing zones in the entire Cognac region, celebrated for their rich chalky soils, ideal for producing grapes of exceptional character. A distinction that is earned, never given.

The grapes used are 95% Ugni Blanc, complemented by 5% Colombard and Folle Blanche a blend of varieties that brings both power and aromatic finesse to the final spirit. Following a double distillation in traditional alambic Charentais pot stills, the spirit is matured in French Limousin oak casks, developing layer after layer of complexity under the watchful care of Cellar Master Jean-Philippe Bergier.

And the world has noticed. This cognac was awarded the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition one of the most respected spirits competitions globally.

Craftsmanship Beyond the Label

Aged in oak casks and going above and beyond what is generally expected from a classic XO, this cognac is blended from a majority of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, fulfilling all the conditions required to be classed as a Fine Champagne. At the house of Bache-Gabrielsen, the XO Fine Champagne is not merely a product it is a statement of what a family-owned, fourth-generation cognac house can achieve when it refuses to compromise.

Tasting Notes

Eye A deep, luminous amber with rich golden highlights: the colour of sunlit autumn leaves. Swirling the glass reveals a slow, generous coat along the sides, a testament to the richness and viscosity acquired through decades of careful ageing in Limousin oak.

Nose The nose opens with extraordinary elegance and complexity. Exceptionally floral, with hints of cinnamon, vanilla, honey, iris and cigar. As the bouquet unfolds, an elegantly composed arrangement of dried fruits, spice and a delicate touch of citrus adds depth and refinement. There is a sense of quiet opulence here nothing shouts, everything whispers with authority.

Mouth The palate delivers on every promise the nose makes. Great balance reveals itself immediately, with slightly peppery notes giving way to dried fruits and chocolate, confirming that the ageing process has been perfectly controlled. The texture is silky and enveloping, beautifully balanced with a finish that is very elegant and long in the mouth, preserving the cinnamon and sweet spicy flavours far beyond the final sip. Lingering touches of old leather, dates, vanilla beans and cedar complement a gently sweet undertone, making the finish one of rare consistency and class.
