Bache-Gabrielsen Réserve Sérénité Très Vieille Grande Champagne

Peace, Purity, Exceptional Depth A tribute to the serene passing of time and the rare Folle Blanche grape.

Bache-Gabrielsen Réserve Sérénité is a cognac that transcends the standard "Extra" or "XO" categories. Labeled as a "Très Vieille Grande Champagne" (Very Old Grande Champagne), this expression is a masterpiece of blending by Cellar Master Jean-Philippe Bergier. It is crafted not only to showcase the power of the Premier Cru but to offer a moment of "Sérénité" (Serenity)—a contemplative tasting experience defined by harmony and extreme age.

The Rarity of Folle Blanche

At Cognac Select, we highlight the unique composition of this blend. While most modern cognacs are made from 100% Ugni Blanc, Réserve Sérénité includes a significant proportion of Folle Blanche. This rare, traditional grape variety was the dominant grape in Cognac before the phylloxera crisis of the late 19th century. When aged for decades in Limousin oak, Folle Blanche imparts an incredible floral finesse and an aromatic lift that balances the robust structure of the Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: A deep, shimmering amber with brilliant copper and mahogany highlights.

Nose: Highly complex and evocative. It opens with an elegant bouquet of dried flowers and honeysuckle, characteristic of the Folle Blanche. This is followed by deep, "gourmet" notes of mocha, orange marmalade, and the noble earthy scent of old leather and forest floor.

Palate: Silky and incredibly enveloping. The palate is a symphony of candied fruits, vanilla, and roasted hazelnuts. The long maturation has produced a pronounced Rancio Charentais, offering savory notes of mushroom and sandalwood that add immense depth to the sweetness.

Finish: Exceedingly long and resonant. It leaves a persistent, velvety trail of wood spices and floral freshness that evolves on the palate for several minutes.
