Bache-Gabrielsen Hors d'Age is a prestigious tribute to the craftsmanship of this family-owned House. This expression is a "Single Terroir" cognac, crafted exclusively from the chalky soils of Grande Champagne. Labeled "Hors d'Age" a term reserved for blends that have aged far beyond the legal requirements of an XO this cognac contains eaux-de-vie that have matured in Limousin oak for several decades, with some components dating back to the early 20th century.

The Art of Patience and Purity

At Cognac Select, we admire the House's commitment to authenticity. To create this blend, Cellar Master Jean-Philippe Bergier meticulously selected rare stocks from a handful of small, traditional distillers in Grande Champagne. The average age of the blend is approximately 50 to 60 years, allowing the spirit to develop a natural concentration and the legendary "rancio" character a complex savory-sweetness without the need for heavy additives or excessive oak influence.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: A deep, dark amber with brilliant coppery and mahogany highlights.

Nose: Powerful, elegant, and deeply concentrated. It opens with an explosion of dried fruits, ginger, and old leather. As it breathes, it reveals the classic Grande Champagne rancio: scents of forest floor, sandalwood, and a touch of tobacco leaf.

Palate: The attack is surprisingly fresh before giving way to a rich, velvety texture. It reveals a complex harmony of candied orange, dark chocolate, and roasted walnuts. The mid-palate is structured and intense, showcasing the incredible depth that only half a century of aging can provide.

Finish: Virtually endless. It leaves a persistent, majestic trail of toasted spices, cedarwood, and dried flowers, reminding the taster of its noble origin.
