When Maison Bache-Gabrielsen launched the « 5 » VSOP Organic Eco-Designed, it did something no cognac house had ever done before: it built an entire expression around a commitment to the planet, from the vine to the customer's hands. The result is a cognac that is as thought-provoking as it is delicious, and one that stands as a genuine milestone in the history of the Cognac region.

Why the name "5"? The answer is threefold and deeply personal. Five, like the 5th generation of the Bache-Gabrielsen family, soon to take the helm of this century-old Maison. Five, like the 5 years of ageing that shaped the character of this organic blend. And five, like the 5 Rs of eco-design Replace, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Renew the five principles that guided every decision made in creating this bottle, from the packaging to the sourcing of raw materials.

This is not greenwashing. This is described by the house itself as "an open and honest cognac, with great transparence in its process the only cognac which advocates eco-design through a 360° approach, from the vine to the customer, developed in close partnership with its suppliers." 

A Pioneering Organic Blend

The blend is made up of certified organic eaux-de-vie selected from the Fins Bois and Petite Champagne regions of Cognac , distilled from 100% Ugni Blanc grapes grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. The eaux-de-vie were aged for 5 years in French Limousin oak barrels, a period long enough to bring genuine depth and complexity while preserving the vibrancy and freshness that defines this expression.

The bottle itself is a statement. Made from 96% recycled household glass, it is 100% recyclable after use, and the label and presentation are entirely recyclable and produced without hot stamping. Every detail has been rethought. Nothing is by chance.

Tasting Notes

Eye

A shiny Versailles Gold robe, luminous and clear, with a pale, youthful brilliance that immediately signals the freshness and organic purity of the liquid within. Light and inviting, it sets the tone for an expressive, nature-driven tasting experience.

Nose

The nose opens with a burst of freshness that is immediately distinctive. Very fresh, dominated by citrus fruit lemon in particular and grape variety notes with muscat hints. Floral nuances follow, with white flowers such as lime blossom and spring hawthorn weaving through elegant touches of fresh citrus. There is something almost alpine about the aromatic profile clean, mineral, alive. A beautifully transparent expression of organic terroir.

Mouth

On the palate, this cognac delivers a lovely freshness enhanced by a distinctive eucalyptus note. Round and supple in texture, the respectful ageing of this blend of Petite Champagne and Fins Bois offers a long and silky finish, with hints of coffee and mocha  that bring a warm, indulgent depth to the close. The finish is completed by a triptych of muscat grape, vanilla and mocha a surprisingly rich farewell from such a vivid and nature-inspired cognac.
