Cognac Park Mizunara Japanese Oak
Spicy, Exotic, Softly Floral The innovative pioneer of the Mizunara finish.
Cognac Park Mizunara Japanese Oak is the original expression that launched the House’s acclaimed Japanese oak series. While the "12 Years" version focuses on the Borderies cru, this expression is a masterfully balanced blend that serves as a bridge between the classic French VSOP style and the rare, aromatic influence of Mizunara oak. It is a cognac designed for those who seek the traditional smoothness of a Borderies-heavy blend, enhanced by the distinct, incense-like notes of Japan’s most legendary wood.
A World-First in Maturation
At Cognac Select, we highlight the technical daring required to create this spirit. The eaux-de-vie are first matured in traditional French oak barrels for a minimum of four years. The blend is then finished for an additional six months in new Japanese Mizunara oak casks. This porous and rare wood is rich in lactones and vanillin, which imbue the cognac with a unique aromatic complexity often described as "temple incense" or "oriental wood" that contrasts beautifully with the fruit-forward nature of the spirit.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: A luminous honey-gold with brilliant clarity.
Nose: Aromatic and surprisingly spicy. It opens with the delicate floral notes of honeysuckle and jasmine, followed by the deep, exotic scent of sandalwood and cedar. There is a subtle underlying sweetness of vanilla and toasted nuts.
Palate: The mouthfeel is supple and incredibly round. It reveals a rich harmony of stewed pear and honey, quickly followed by a spicy mid-palate of pepper and ginger. The influence of the Mizunara wood is evident in the complex, woody depth that feels both dry and creamy.
Finish: Fresh and lingering. It leaves a clean, elegant trail of sweet spices, dried fruit, and a final, sophisticated woody note that is the signature of Japanese oak.
